Yoeli Childs, TJ Haws, Jake Toolson – BYU Cougars

The BYU Cougars had qualified for their first NCAA tournament in the last four seasons. The nation’s best shooting team is going to have to replace a ton of production from this team. The team had many seniors and all those seniors were huge contributors. BYU was a team that could have made noise in the NCAA tournament. They were not a team that anyone wanted to see on their side of the bracket, mostly due to their ability to shoot the ball and their dominance underneath the basket.

Yoeli Childs is a player who is going to be sorely missed for the Cougars. It is a shame he was never able to play in the NCAA tournament. Childs averaged 17 points per game for his career, about 9 rebounds and was a good shooter, especially his last year. He made a case for the conference player of the year the last two seasons and not seeing him in the NCAA tournament is a shame. Childs was hoping to end his career with a bang and a magical run through March.

TJ Haws is finally a senior, it seems like he has been in college for a decade. It seems like Haws had been in College for so long because he had a brother Tyler who was also a four-year starter at BYU. The senior point guard has had many big moments and has hit a ton of huge shots for the Cougars, but much like Childs never got his chance to shine on the sports biggest stage. The Haws legacy will live on at BYU but TJ will always have to live in his dad and brothers shadows as he is the only member of his family to never take BYU to an official NCAA tournament appearance.

Jake Toolson began his career at BYU before transferring to Utah Valley. Once current BYU head coach Mark Pope took over as the head coach for the Cougars, Toolson came back and finished his career with BYU. The second time around was much different than the first.  Toolson was one of the best shooters in the entire country and was often the go-to player for the BYU offense.

Toolson came to Provo with the hopes of leading the Cougars to an NCAA tournament berth. These three players were the core of the BYU team but other key role players like Zac Seljaas and Dalton Nixon were also Seniors. BYU has a ton of production to replace next season this may have been their best chance to make the NCAA tournament at least for a few more seasons.
