NCAA Basketball: Seniors who never got their moment in NCAA Tournament
By Bryan Mauro
Markus Howard and Sacar Anim – Marquette Golden Eagles
After what Marquette lost heading into the season it was hard to know exactly what to expect. The team still had a good core of their players returning but the players they lost many figured would have had a large impact. When Marquette lost the Hauser twins to transfer who was going to pick up the load on offense left behind by those two players.
Markus Howard was still on the roster and outside of Jordan Ford and Myles Powell, Howard is the most dynamic scorer in the country. Many nights Howard didn’t need much else to win games for the Golden Eagles. Marquette did struggle on the nights that Howard was off and the shots were not falling. Howard had not won an NCAA tournament game during his college days and heading into his senior year he was hoping for an NCAA tournament win. That would have been a great way to cap off his senior year. The Marquette fans have not been treated to an NCAA tournament win in six years and Howard was hoping to bring the fans that win.
Sacar Anim has been part of the Golden Eagle backcourt for the last four years. Anim has always been known as a great shooter and has been a key piece to the Marquette team for the last four years. He was never anything flashy, but he always played quality minutes. Anim also had the knack for making the clutch shots leftover from Howard. Anim had a breakout year this year and was hoping to help Howard lead Marquette to a win in the NCAA tournament. As it stands Marquette will have to wait another season to win an NCAA tournament game.
