Ferron Flavors Jr is one of the best shooters in the NCAA Basketball transfer portal. Which teams are pursuing him the hardest?

When we look into the current state of the NCAA Basketball transfer portal, most of the attention will go to the high-profile names. Guys like Justin Turner, Jordan Bruner, Johnny Juzang and others will be heavily sought after but there are also players under the radar who can be the difference between a team being in the NCAA Tournament, or the NIT next season. Ferron Flavors Jr. fits into that category.

While leading scorer Milan Acquaah got most of the attention for D-I newcomer Cal Baptist, Flavors also played a role in the Lancers being the second-best team in the WAC this past season. The 6’3 transfer from Fairfield averaged 13.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg on 42% shooting from the field. The three-point line is his specialty though, making 44% of his 6.8 attempts each game. Flavors hit at least five long balls in nine different games this season, including a career-high six in a 24-point effort against Central Arkansas.

Now in the portal for a second time, Flavors has received interest from a number of programs looking to add a three-point specialist to their respective rotations for next season. Just recently, the Cal Baptist guard has narrowed his options to a group of five:

Only one (Xavier) were even in contention to make the NCAA Tournament this past season, so there’s a need for a player like Flavors to come in and have a big impact. Here’s a closer look at where he would fit in each program.

Detroit Mercy Titans

Even though they won just eight games total last season, the Titans have a shot at competing at the Horizon League in 2021, thanks to the return of Antoine Davis. He was one of the nation’s leading scorers at 24.3 ppg but needs additional scoring help. Having a guy who can shoot from deep like Flavors can be a huge addition and the Horizon League itself isn’t too big of a leap for a player that has played in both the WAC and MAAC before. In terms of playing time, Detroit Mercy would be the top option.
