Who should be atop of Wake Forest’s search list?

There is a coach out there who has been extremely successful on the west coast and has a history with Wake Forest. He may be very happy where he is, but the Demon Deacons should reach out to former assistant, Russell Turner, the current head man at Big West stalwart UC-Irvine.

After graduating from Division III Hampden-Sydney in 1992, he spent the following season as an assistant at the school. In 1994 he was hired by Wake Forest’s legendary coach Dave Odom to be a part of his staff, which is where he would stay through the 2000 season. During his time with the school, Wake Forest went to three straight NCAA Tournaments including that 1996 season, as well as an NIT title and a couple of ACC championships.

His next stop would be at Stanford, where he would spend four seasons with Mike Montgomery. The Cardinal would go to four more NCAA Tournaments, including an Elite Eight in 2000-01. Turner would then follow to Montgomery to the NBA as a member of his staff with the Golden State Warriors. He would remain with Golden State until 2010 when he would return to the college ranks to take over the program at UC-Irvine.
