The Mitchell twins are taking their talents to the Atlantic 10’s Rhode Island basketball program. The former Terps will add depth to the Rams frontcourt in 2020.

Rhode Island basketball received two new additions to their frontcourt rotation Monday when Makhi announced it on Instagram. The former Terps transferred before Big Ten Conference play got in full swing.

The Mitchell twins didn’t see a lot of minutes on the court during their time as Terps as they both played under 10 minutes per game. Makhi’s only solid performance was against the George Mason Patriots where he recorded 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in 10 minutes. Makhel’s best outing was against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies where he recorded four points and four rebounds in 16 minutes played.

With them coming on board, Rhode Island basketball will have seven frontcourt players on the roster next season. 6-foot-9, 225 pound, Scotland Performance Institute power forward Abou Ousmane is the other big man from Pennsylvania who announced his commitment a few days ago. Rhode Island is set up to compete once again next year with all of the size they’ll have.

Two of Rhode Island’s best players Fatts Russell and Cyril Langevine may not be with the program next season. I say may because Russell entered his name into the NBA Draft but can still come back for his senior year if he chooses to. In addition to those two, Rams Forward Mekhi Long entered the transfer portal.

If Russell doesn’t return, Malik Martin may help fill his role. The Rams landed the Charlotte 49ers guard Monday afternoon and he averaged nine points as a sophomore this season.

Russell was named U.S. Basketball Writers Association Player of the Year and to the Atlantic 10 First Team and All-Defensive Team.  He led the Rams in scoring with 18 points, four assists and three steals per game. Langevine was the team’s fourth-leading scorer with 10 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Rhode Island basketball finished the 2019-20 season with a 21-9 (13-5 Atlantic 10) record and third in the conference. Things are looking up for the program with these additions.
