NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing transfer Landers Nolley 11 finalists
Ole Miss Rebels
Look, if you have a chance to get a strong player like Landers Nolley on the roster, by all means go ahead and make the effort. But guard play wasn’t the issue as to why Ole Miss finished with a 15-17 record this past season. The more pressing issue is in the frontcourt and finding talent there. But the Rebels do need to replace the production of both Breein Tyree and Devontae Shuler, the two leading scorers on the team.
Nolley would certainly get plenty of minutes for Ole Miss and an opportunity to impress NBA scouts. But even with top-40 incoming guard Matthew Murrell and Cal State Bakersfield transfer Jarkel Joiner set to be part of the picture, they won’t be an NCAA Tournament team in 2022. When the next cut of teams comes from the Hokies transfer, there’s a great chance that the Rebels won’t make the list.
Oregon Ducks
If Dana Altman can’t get a top-50 prospect, he’ll look to land a top-tier transfer or two each offseason. That’s what he did with Duquesne forward Eric Williams Jr., along with former Rutgers big man Eugene Omoruyi. There’s going to be a logjam of sorts in the frontcourt next season but with Chris Duarte gone after next year, Nolley would have the three-spot all to himself in 2021-22.
From a potential-to-win standpoint, the Ducks are right up there with anyone else on this list and will have a talented roster with Nolley on board. The question will be whether the Fairburn, Georgia native would venture out west and be willing to sit out a season.
