A whole offseason remains prior to the 2020-21 NCAA basketball season, but Villanova and Gonzaga are early leaders in our way-too-early Top 25.

The 2019-20 NCAA basketball season ended abruptly in mid-March amidst concerns regarding the ongoing pandemic of the coronavirus. The Ivy League was the first to cancel its conference tournament and that only started the ball rolling. Every other conference followed suit in the coming days before the NCAA Tournament was canceled just three days before Selection Sunday, essentially shutting the book on the season.

While this was certainly surprising, it is now the offseason and it is time to look ahead to the future of college hoops. With the 2020-21 season in mind, there are several teams that already seem poised for monster campaigns and my rankings in this piece reflect that.

Before diving into my way-too-early Top 25 rankings for the 2020-21 season, it is important to mention that they are just that – way. too. early. This is especially true this offseason because there are still so many potential roster changes to monitor. For most of the top teams, the biggest decisions to watch center around the NBA Draft – which players are going to return to school and which will be heading to the professional ranks this summer?

It is also important to mention, though, that the transfer market continues to grow with each offseason. This is perhaps the most important thing to monitor over the next couple of months as rosters are bound to change dramatically both with regard to departing and incoming talent. Considering the potential for the “one-time transfer waiver” rule to be passed this offseason, the transfer market may be more prevalent than ever over the next couple of months.

Now, without any further ado, let’s dive into my way-too-early Top 25 rankings for the 2020-21 season.
