Holland Woods of Portland State has entered the NCAA Basketball transfer portal. Which NCAA Basketball programs are coming after the point guard?
It was a solid season overall for the Portland State Vikings, finishing 18-14 (12-8 in Big Sky) and ending the regular season on a six-game winning streak. Junior guard Holland Woods played a huge part in the Vikings’ success, leading the team with 17.7 ppg and 5.2 apg. Unfortunately for Portland State, it could be his last year, electing to enter the NCAA Basketball transfer portal.
The 6’1 point guard has been a starter for all three years with Portland State, averaging 5+ assists per game in each season. The scoring has improved each year as well, going from 10.5 to 15.0 to nearly 18 ppg. Woods is also a solid defender, ranking among the top of the Big Sky in steals. An area of weakness has been shooting efficiency, making just 41% overall from the field and 30% from three-point range.
Even with that, there were a number of programs after Woods once he entered the portal. And after some time, the transfer has limited his options to a final five, including possibly returning to the Vikings. Currently, Woods is considered a “sit-out” transfer, as he’s not set to graduate this Spring. So barring a waiver from the NCAA, he’ll have to wait until the 2021-22 season to play.

So which team will land Woods? Here’s a look at each option and how the point guard would fit.
Portland State Vikings
Is it possible that Woods could return to Portland State? Sure, if he loves being at the program and playing for head coach Barrett Perry. But he’d be playing with an entirely new set of teammates, considering that the top six scorers after him were all seniors. They were the fourth-best team in the Big Sky with all of these upperclassmen and outside of landing multiple grad transfers, the Vikings will have little hope of being at the top of the league and making the NCAA Tournament. I would say that the odds are good that Woods moves on.
