Kansas basketball has offered a scholarship to 2021 center Micawber Etienne, but competition for the four-star prospect is significantly intensifying.

Kansas basketball has entered the mix for talented 2021 center Micawber “Mac” Etienne, a four-star player who has caught the attention of more and more high-quality programs.

The 6-foot-10 Etienne, a rising senior at Suffield Academy in Suffield, Conn., disclosed the Jayhawks’ scholarship offer via his Twitter page. Other recent offers to him have arrived from Atlantic Coast Conference member Louisville and Ohio State, out of the Big Ten Conference.

But the total number of offers to Etienne is inching closer to 20, according to a review of the 247Sports Web site and Rivals.com. These groups include Illinois, Seton Hall, UCLA, Syracuse, Connecticut, Iowa, Rutgers, VCU, Xavier, Providence, St. John’s and Arizona State.

That’s a boatload of legit squads for Etienne to consider, and it doesn’t appear there is a consensus favorite to land him at this juncture.

Kansas, coming off a stellar 2019-20 in which it finished the abruptly halted term at No. 1 in both major polls, doesn’t yet have a commitment in the 2021 class, although the Jayhawks do have a bunch of offers out there at every position, including center.

Etienne, who suits up for the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals on the AAU circuit, received the 2019-20 Gatorade Connecticut Boys Basketball Player of the Year award in late March.

In his junior stint for Suffield Academy, Etienne put up some impressive numbers, averaging 15 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks and two assists a game for the Tigers, per the announcement on his Gatorade honor.

Since last summer, Etienne has climbed up the national ratings across his class. For example, when he revealed an offer from Syracuse on July 17, 2019, I wrote a piece for Inside The Loud House, a sister site of Busting Brackets.

At that time, 247Sports slotted him at No. 74 overall, with Rivals.com placing Etienne at No. 77. Presently, however, he checks in at No. 58 with 247Sports, and at No. 61 from Rivals.com.

Delving into the center spot itself, Etienne is ranked between 9th and 12th in the country. Kansas has a battle on its hands to obtain his services, and it’s likely additional powerhouse units will offer Etienne in the near future.
