David Joplin – Brookfield, WI

PF | 6-foot-7 | 215 lbs | No. 186 by PrepHoops

David Joplin was previously listed among the “potential offers” part of this Big Board but has since moved into the list of top targets. The 6-foot-7 combo forward from Brookfield Central (WI) announced that he received a scholarship offer from Butler on May 4th and this comes just a couple of months after taking an unofficial visit to campus. It might also be important to mention that two recruiting analysts have already made predictions for Joplin-to-Butler since that offer.

Joplin is currently unranked by most recruiting services but is slotted at No. 186 in the class by PrepHoops. With that said, though, Joplin definitely seems to be a high-major caliber recruit. He is an impressively well-built prospect with great length and his playing style oozes versatility. Those attributes are all extremely desirable in the modern game while he boasts a rather refined skillset as well.

Although he is molding his game more to play on the perimeter, he uses his frame well inside the arc as well. He can play positions 2-through-4 on both sides of the ball but mostly fits the mold of a small-ball power forward at this moment. He has room to develop as a ball-handler and creator, both for himself and others, but has the makings of a big-time performer.

Joplin experienced a bit of a breakout last summer while playing for Meanstreets on the Nike EYBL circuit and then parlayed that into an excellent high school campaign. He averaged 23.2 points (.509/.385/.732), 10.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game across 24 contests during his junior high school season. Here is a look at some of those highlights:

He has received several offers and indicated to me that Butler, Valparaiso, and Loyola-Chicago were prioritizing him most during an interview a couple of months ago. Wisconsin is also expected to keep tabs on him. If there is an AAU season, Joplin will be playing for D1 Minnesota.
