NCAA Basketball: Pros/cons of five-star forward Greg Brown’s 5 schools
4. Michigan Wolverines
Another young coach who has excelled at recruiting, MIchigan head coach Juwan Howard has prioritized gaining young, four-year talent.
Pros
Michigan enjoyed a good season in Howard’s first season under the helm, especially with a young roster. In 2020-21, the Wolverines will be even better, with a great recruiting class and the return of starters such as Eli Brooks and Isaiah Livers.
If Brown wants the best combination of winning and playing in a true college atmosphere, Michigan is a great option. Howard, a fellow power forward, would serve as a great mentor for Brown, who despite his high recruiting rank, is a very raw prospect that could use some development.
Cons
Although he is a top-ten recruit, Brown could fall victim to the lack of playing time if he were to choose Michigan. Michigan already has the commitment of fellow power forward Isaiah Todd, who is the likely starter in Ann Arbor. Brandon Johns and the aforementioned Livers are also power forwards.
While Howard had a solid deal of success in his debut season, he did not do much on the part of developing his players into NBA prospects. Michigan had three players from the season before land on NBA teams (Jordan Poole, Charles Matthews, Ignas Brazdeikis). This season, Zavier Simpson is the only potential NBAer.
Michigan is the most unlikely destination for Brown considering the current state of their roster. For his best four-year experience, Brown might want to choose Michigan. However, Brown is almost certainly not going to spend more than a year on any campus, which makes Michigan undesirable and unlikely.
