NCAA Basketball: 15 head coaches on early hot seat for 2020-21 season
By Joey Loose
3. Jim Christian (Boston College)
Boston College is another program whose glory years are well behind them and Christian certainly hasn’t gotten them back to the olden days. He’s survived six years at the helm but there’s been a lot more down than up for the Eagles in those seasons.
One of the more prominent moments of Christian’s tenure came back in 2016 when Boston College didn’t win a single conference game, though he has survived several years past that disappointment. The Eagles have been below .500 in all but one of Christian’s seasons and have come nowhere close to competing in the ACC. Frankly, it’s a mystery as to why he’s made it to season seven when predecessor Steve Donahue was only given four.
This season, Boston College’s offense was pretty awful, but things could take a turn for the better next year. Regardless of what happens, it’s hard to picture the Eagles actually competing for an NCAA Tournament bid in a challenging conference. The Boston College job isn’t as impressive a position as it once was, but there’s a much higher ceiling than what Christian has achieved. Expect a hot seat and a change very soon unless something incredible gets brewing in Boston.
