9. Larry Krystkowiak (Utah)

Krystkowiak has done some solid work, transitioning the Utes to the Pac-12 during his nine years at the helm. This past season was a bit of a step backward, but performance alone is not reason for concern for the former NBA head coach.

Krystkowiak is among the highest-paid coaches in college basketball and frankly, the results do not match the price tag. Nobody expects Utah to dominate the Pac-12, but this team hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament in four seasons. They have been above .500 in conference play in five of the last six seasons, but in the current state of the Pac-12, this isn’t exactly an impressive feat. Krystkowiak has a Sweet Sixteen on his resume (2015) and has been a solid leader for this program, but at what point is it enough?

Clearly, this is no longer the Utah program that played for a national title under Rick Majerus in the late 90’s. If Krystkowiak is living under that shadow, then the current progress of this program is not enough. Fortunately, despite his high salary, he does seem to be doing a solid enough job with the Utes. Barring a total collapse, I think he’ll stick around for a few more years, but that’s mostly because of his large buyout.
