Cliff Omoruyi, C, Rutgers

When the governor tweets about your commitment, you know you’re a big deal.

That’s exactly what happened for Omoruyi, who received a congratulations from New Jersey governor Phil Murphy following his commitment to Rutgers (it should be noted that Omoruyi is a New Jersey native).

The 6-10, 230-pounder already has great size and strength for a collegiate, and he uses both to dominate inside on both ends of the floor. He’s an excellent rebound who finishes around the rim with power and is a reliable shot-blocker as well. Omoruyi’s offensive game is somewhat limited to the paint, but he’s such a presence down there that it may not really matter for a team with other scorers like the Scarlet Knights.

This is where we get into the fact that head coach Steve Pikiell’s system is going to be Omoruyi in great position to succeed. Rutgers had their best season in nearly three decades on the strength of their defense and ability to protect the paint. Omoruyi will only improve that, as 6-11 Myles Johnson was the only consistent contributor for the Scarlet Knights with any real size.

Rutgers is pretty well established on the perimeter with Jacob Young, Geo Baker, and Ron Harper Jr., but Omoruyi will be the main guy holding it down in the middle.
