2021 top 100 prospect Dontrez Styles is slated to make his college selection on Saturday.

2021 consensus four-star forward Dontrez Styles announced, via Twitter, that he will make his college decision on April 18 at 5 p.m. (ET). Styles holds 14 offers total offers, and while he has not officially trimmed his list, it is thought that North Carolina, Clemson, Maryland, NC State, and Pittsburgh are the leading contenders for the Kinston (NC) native. DePaul, East Carolina, Georgetown, Ole Miss, St. Johns, Texas A&M, USF, VCU, and Wake Forest are the other teams that have offered him.

“Growing up, I always wanted to play in the ACC or the SEC,” Styles said. “But now I’m just open. Of course, I’d love to play in those conferences, but I just want to go where it’s the right fit for me.”

The 6-6 versatile, athletic combo forward is a quick jumper and can score a variety of ways. Styles is highly competitive, tremendous rebounder, and extremely physical. He is a capable slasher who finishes well at the rim and showed immense improvement from the perimeter this season.

Styles is coming off a strong junior campaign where he averaged a double-double with 19.7 points along with 11 boards (5.2 offensive) while shooting an astronomical 76% from the field as well as 51% (30-59) from long-distance for Kingston High School, which went 26-4 and reached the fourth round of the 2S state playoffs. The All-North Carolina selection produced a double-double in each of his 30 appearances and topped the 20-point plateau on 16 occasions.

Styles is rated as a top 70 prospect by each of the top recruiting services. He is ranked 57th by 247Sports Composite while ESPN and Rivals both have him at No. 57 in their rankings. 247Sports put him at 58th.

Clemson, NC State, and UNC have done the best job at recruiting Styles, according to Rivals’ Eric Bossi. Styles has not taken an official visit anywhere but he has watched the Wolfpack and Tar Heels play this past season on their campuses. However, it is thought that the Heels have a distinct advantage in securing his services even though Carolina didn’t offer a scholarship until March 23. So, much that both 247Sports and Rivals give the Tar Heels a 100% of winning the recruiting battle.

If Styles does select North Carolina he would be the first 2021 prospect to verbally commit to the team. The Tar Heels are expected to have at least three scholarships available next year. They have offered six other players in the class, including five-star point guard Kennedy Chandler, five-star shooting guard Trevor Keels, five-star small forward Patrick Baldwin Jr., five-star small forward Harrison Ingram, five-star Paola Banchero, and five-star center Chet Holmgren.
