With Patrick Tape signing to transfer from Columbia to Duke on April 18th, Duke Basketball’s 2020-21 roster is officially final; here’s what it looks like.

Duke basketball had a rather interesting start to their offseason following both the ACC and NCAA tournaments being canceled, ending their season. In the following weeks, Duke would first lose star point guard and 2019-20 ACC Player of the Year, Tre Jones to the draft, then Alex O’Connell announced his intentions to transfer, then they got a commitment from Patrick Tape, then a de-commitment from Patrick Tape and then a recommitment from Patrick Tape.

After that, Cassius Stanley announced he would be going to the NBA Draft, to the surprise of some and Vernon Carey jr. announced the same, to the surprise of nobody. With the exception of Jones, O’Connell, Stanley and Carey, Duke will retain all of their players from the 2019-20 squad with the additions of several star freshmen and a transfer for the first time since 2014.

With all that being said, here is Duke’s official and finalized roster for the 2020-21 season:

  • Jalen Johnson, Fr, SF, Five-Star
  • Jeremy Roach, Fr, PG, Five-Star
  • D.J. Steward, Fr, SG, Five-Star
  • Jaemyn Brakefield, Fr, PF, Five-Star
  • Mark Williams, Fr, C, Four-Star
  • Henry Coleman III, Fr, PF, Four-Star
  • Cason Pierce, Fr, PF, Walk-On
  • Matthew Hurt, So, PF
  • Wendell Moore, So, SF
  • Keenan Worthington, So, PF
  • Michael Savarino, So, PG
  • Joey Baker, Jr, PF
  • Jordan Goldwire, Sr, PG
  • Mike Buckmire, Sr, PG
  • Patrick Tape, Grad-Student, C

This is a roster with a ton of star-power on it and it’s a roster that could very well win the ACC Tournament, reclaiming their crown that they didn’t have the chance to claim in 2020.

This is also a team with senior leadership in Jordan Goldwire which is very, very valuable for such a young team like this one. Goldwire will likely be one of three captains, the other two being Mike Buckmire and Joey Baker, I also wouldn’t be that surprised if someone like Wendell Moore is named a captain as well.

Overall, Duke is set to have a very talented roster for the 2020-21 season and they will likely be the favorites to win the ACC as well. As for what the depth chart will look like, I’ll have more on that in the coming weeks with in-depth looks at each position and the starting rotation as a whole.
