With the NCAA Tournament’s cancellation and the season thus ending prematurely, it is time to take a (way too early) look at the state of Big 12 Basketball for next season.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we never got any sense of closure from the wild 2019-20 College Basketball season. One of the conferences with the most intriguing tournaments was the Big 12. With anywhere between three and six NCAA Tournament teams, the Big 12 Basketball tournament was set to be one of the most crucial in terms of seeding and bids.

Aside from the unfinished business that was to be settled in the conference tournament, the other major headline from the Big 12 Conference in 2019-20 was the fact that two of the nation’s top teams, Baylor and Kansas, had come from the conference.

The 2019-20 Big 12 Basketball season had it all. Marquee matchups, massive upsets, domination, dreadful play, stardom, unheralded heroism, and more. Despite several key departures, the expectation is that the 2020-21 season will be a continuation of last season’s chaotic campaign.

Given the recruiting hierarchy, the Big 12 is always one of the toughest conferences to predict. Considering that at least seven teams always seem to be competitive, preseason rankings, especially “way too early” ones, are almost never accurate come conference play.

However, it’s worth a shot. Here are your “way too early” Big 12 Basketball power rankings, which will inevitably be completely inaccurate and well off the mark by next March.
