Adama Sanogo is a top-tier center in the 2021 NCAA Basketball prospect class. What are the latest developments in his recruitment?

40+ days into the NCAA Basketball offseason, many programs are still looking for quality big men for the 2020-21 season. The top big men in the transfer portal have already been taken, as well as the top targets from the 2020 recruiting class. However, an intriguing name could be available for next year in Adama Sanogo.

Originally from Mali, the 6’10 center is ranked in the top-50 overall in the 2021 class, per 247sportsComposite. However, there have been increasing buzz with him possibly reclassifying to joining this current group of players. That’s why coaches have been after Sanogo hard in recent weeks, with the center recently cutting his list from 10 to six. Oklahoma State, Memphis, Illinois and Louisville failed to make the group, meaning that they’ll have to find another big to land.

That leaves, Pittsburgh, Auburn, UConn, Seton Hall, Maryland and Nebraska among Sanogo’s finalists. The belief a month ago was that Nebraska had an edge but recent developments and a reclassification question now have things wide open.

Sanogo is someone who can have a big impact as both a rebounder and defender, with an emerging offensive game. A fair comparison would be to Kofi Cockburn of Illinois, who had a great freshman campaign and currently is in the NBA Draft testing process.

One of those six named teams would love for Sanogo to have as big a freshman season, whether next year or the one after. But with his class in question, there’s a lot to analyze about his potential fit with each of those programs. Here’s a closer look at where he stands with all six, thinking of all scenarios possible.
