St. John’s basketball has an intriguing 2020 recruiting class committed to potentially carry the program into the future under head coach Mike Anderson.

St. John’s basketball is in the midst of a transition phase under the leadership of Mike Anderson. The experienced head coach took over the program in Queens prior to this past season and immediately implemented plenty of schematic changes. While the Red Storm finished the year with an overall record of just 17-15 (5-13 Big East) and would have missed the NCAA Tournament, the fanbase appears to be invigorated by the changes in playing style.

Looking ahead to this coming season, St. John’s could be poised for a major leap out of the Big East’s cellar. The potential return of LJ Figueroa and the rising stardom of Julian Champagnie are two major reasons for this optimism, but so are the four newcomers joining the program by way of its 2020 recruiting class. With two JUCO transfers and a pair of incoming freshmen, this four-man class is filled with high-ceiling players that should thrive in Coach Anderson’s system.

This quartet of newcomers ranks 66th in the country by 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings but that doesn’t quantify what this class means for the future of the program. Not only is Coach Anderson experiencing success in the JUCO ranks by nailing two of the most highly-regarded transfers but he also showed he can win recruiting battles in the New York area. Tapping into that pipeline consistently could be crucial in revamping the Red Storm.

Now, without any further ado, let’s dive into the incoming 2020 recruiting class for St. John’s to see how each of these players could potentially make their impacts on the program.
