Nebraska Basketball had a multitude of problems last year in the first year of the Fred Hoiberg era. Hopefully, the edition of shooter Trevor Lakes helps change the fortunes of the Huskers.

The Nebraska basketball team won 7 games a season ago. While many expected them to not be good, no one expected them to be that bad, not even coach Hoiberg. Coach Hoiberg is a well-respected coach in the industry and his wide-open style requires a special type of player. The fact of the matter is that last season when Hoiberg built his team in just a few short months were not players up to the caliber of his system.

This season Nebraska has yet again experienced a great deal of roster turnover. The only difference this season is the players replacing the players have an uptick in talent. Nebraska has higher expectations this year and it remains to be seen how the talent all comes together. The Huskers are going to have the same problem they had last year. That problem relied so much on chemistry as the team had 13 new pieces that had never played together before. This year they have a few more players who have been with the team but many of them have never played in a game before.

As the Nebraska coaching staff attempts to build a winner one thing is evident with how coach Hoiberg and his staff want to build the program. The best way to describe it is to look to the mantra “Get old and stay old.”  How do you do that?  The best way to do it is to get in on the transfer market and scour for any grad transfer and sit out transfer that can play in the system. Coach Hoiberg was able to build a winner at Iowa State building with transfers and JUCO players.

He is taking that same approach and is getting old and trying to stay old. His staff has mentioned numerous times that they hope to use two scholarships every single year on a sit-out transfer. With the Huskers’ latest commitment, the staff is now able to cross that off their want list for next season.
