NCAA Basketball: Analyzing Evansville transfer Deandre Williams final 4 teams
Arkansas Razorbacks
Once again, head coach Eric Musselman has his eyes on a transfer for the upcoming season. Even though the success rate is low, he did land a pair of grad transfers in guard Jalen Tate of Northern Kentucky and forward Vance Jackson of New Mexico. And with a top-10 incoming recruiting class filled with top-100 prospects, Arkansas is on track to being a top-tier club in the SEC.
With All-SEC guard Mason Jones (22.0 ppg) confirmed to be staying in the NBA Draft, the Razorbacks are looking for a player who can break out and be a leading scorer for next season. Isaiah Joe (16.9 ppg) could do that but he’s still in the draft process and could very well stay. And the rest of the roster looks good collectively in terms of depth but there’s no clear-cut go-to guy. Williams can come in and play both the small and power forward positions.
He compares favorably to a former Musselman athlete in Jordan Caroline, a 6’7 combo forward who averaged 17 ppg and 9.0 pg in three years at Nevada. The open flow offense works great with versatile wings and forwards with offensive potential. Williams could absolutely do that, although that’s what I thought Jackson was brought in for. And at the same time, there have been plenty of transfers who ultimately flamed out in the rotation. It’s a risk for the Evansville transfer but joining the Hogs could pay off big time.
