NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 2021 Benny Williams final 4 teams
Maryland Terrapins
After enjoying the sunshine of the 2019-20 regular season that involved a nine-game winning streak, multiple come from behind wins and a Big Ten title, they are now trying to weather the storm that has been the recruiting trail. They missed out on Bryce Aiken (Seton Hall), Jordan Bruner (Alabama), Carlik Jones (Louisville), Marcus Santos-Silva (Texas Tech), and Alex O’Connell (Creighton).
Going into the 2021-22 season, they’ll need to find a wing player who will come and fill the shoes of their glue guy Darryl Morsell who will be gone after next season. What Morsell has been great at over the course of his career is leadership, toughness, and defense. He scores the ball effectively as well. With a commitment from Benny Williams, the Terps could solidify that spot. They would need to build depth in that area as well. Currently, Donta Scott would be the only small forward the Terps have for next season should he be moved to his natural position. He played more minutes at the power forward spot and was very productive.
Williams could be a viable scoring option in a revamped Terps offense with Morsell and Aaron Wiggins moving on to the NBA. The Terps are going to be a rebuilding project the next couple seasons and for him, it comes down to: does he want to be a part of that and win in his home state or make a name for himself elsewhere?
