NCAA Basketball: 10 teams who should target ETSU transfer Bo Hodges
Vanderbilt Commodores
Having won just 11 total games this past season and lost their two best players (Saben Lee and Aaron Nesmith) to the NBA Draft, it’s understandable that head coach Jerry Stackhouse would use the transfer portal for some immediate talent infusion. The team already has sit-out transfers DJ Harvey, Issac McBride and Quentin Millora-Brown ready to go, while also being reportedly a favorite to land Arizona State grad transfer forward Romello White, who Stackhouse used to coach at the AAU level.
If Hodges has any concerns about playing time at a bigger school, that wouldn’t be an issue with the Commodores. And after another year, this team, potentially with Hodges could be good enough to compete once again in the SEC. It also could be good for a player like Hodges to spend time with a former NBA star when it comes to developing and getting ready for the pros.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
It’s pretty obvious that Wake Forest should have an interest, with the option of Hodges following his head coach being legit. Players transfer to follow their coaches all the time, with a majority of moves ending pretty well for both sides. Hodges can play in the ACC and considering how much of a rebuild it looks to be for the program, could step in and play 25-30 minutes in a one-year situation that doesn’t mess up the future for other recruits.
The biggest question, in this case, would be whether or not it would be worth it for Hodges, who has never experienced less than 25 wins in a given season, to sign up for likely campaigns to be under .500 overall. Coach Forbes might not poach any of his players (out of respect to his now-former assistant) but for a program in big need of talent, has to at least gauge the interest of arguably the best guard in the transfer portal.
Expect some “visits” and reports to come out in the coming days. With East Tennessee State still in the picture, there’s a real possibility that Bo Hodges will ultimately return. If he doesn’t, one program is going to land a very impactful asset for the 2021-22 season.
