Iowa State Cyclones
Iowa State has been all over the transfer market, looking for guards in particular to replace both Tyrese Haliburton and Prentiss Nixon. Memphis transfer Tyler Harris is sitting out next season and the team just missed out on Gardner-Webb guard Jose Perez. The Cyclones are also after Jalen Coleman-Lands but with two scholarships left could afford to take both on and provide sizeable roles to make both happy.
Leading scorer Rasir Bolton will be coming back but he tends to play better off the ball than as the primary facilitator. Flowers can play the point guard position in the Big 12 and still provide that needed scoring lift for the Cyclones to succeed.
Santa Clara Broncos
The Broncos were set to return everyone from this past season’s 20-win team but early departures of both Tahj Eaddy and Trey Wertz leaves them without a true point guard to lead them. Flowers would get the role and could excel in the guard-friendly WCC, which isn’t much of a leap from the MAC and isn’t going to overpower him compared to possibly the Big 12 or Big East.
Flowers would be joined by leading scorer and Josip Vrankic and key rotation pieces DJ Mitchell, Keshawn Justice and Guglielmo Caruso. While adding Santa Clara wouldn’t make them an NCAA Tournament contender just yet, it could be the safest landing spot for the WMU transfer.
Even after a month, all four teams are still in a position to need the services of Michael Flowers, although the upcoming decision from Coleman-Lands could take either DePaul or Cal from the equation. Assuming these still are the four teams in the running, I would argue that Iowa State represents the best opportunity for Flowers to succeed. No matter where he lands, he’ll have an impact at his next location without a doubt.
