NCAA Basketball: Analyzing Makur Maker 5 potential college options
Oregon Ducks
Head coach Dana Altman had experience with a similar type of talent in Bol Bol a couple of years ago, before suffering a leg injury before league play. The Ducks could use another center in its rotation since former four-star recruit Francis Okoro transferred to Saint Louis this offseason. The frontcourt play for Oregon last year was solid but not elite, splitting the minutes between five players, with none of them averaging more than a few points and rebounds per game.
The most promising player of the group was N’Faly Dante, a late class of 2020 commit who missed the first 10 games due to academic reasons. He slowly was brought into the fold by an ankle injury erased much of the progress. A healthy Dante ready to go can be a force for the Ducks but if not, adding Maker would give the team an offensive presence in the frontcourt for 2020-21. That’ll be needed, with Pac-12 Player of the Year and All-American Payton Pritchard having graduated.
There are many questions regarding the Ducks roster next season, including who will be the starting point guard and how they’ll incorporate the transfers. UNLV grad transfer Amauri Hardy is joining the program, along with sit-out transfers Eric Williams Jr. and Eugene Omoruyi will have roles in the frontcourt as well. Maker would, of course, have his own role but the roster makeup is unclear and without a lead facilitator may not end up in the best overall situation.
