Big 12 Basketball: Breakout candidates from each team for 2020-21 season

Oklahoma – De’Vion Harmon
Speaking of Oklahoma, they’re undergoing a good deal of roster turnover as well. Leading scorer Kristian Doolittle graduated and Jamal Bieniemy opted to transfer, leaving the Sooners with some holes on the wing.
Brady Manek and Austin Reaves do return, but neither player provides as much potential upside De’Vion Harmon, who earned the starting point guard spot as a freshman last season. He’s a strong, smart guard who can defend and shoot from distance, but he wasn’t always efficient when attacking the rim.
The ball wasn’t in Harmon’s hands a ton last season with Doolittle and Bieniemy sharing in ball-handling and playmaking duties, relegating him to somewhat of a role player. That will change this season. His usage rate should go way up as he’s put in more advantageous positions in Lon Kruger’s offense that will allow him to better utilize his strength and shooting abilities. He will also be put in a better position to attack the basket, too.
We know what Manek and Reaves will bring to the table from a shooting and scoring standpoint, yet Harmon appears to be the one in line to take a massive leap forward with both his impact and production.
