BYU Cougars
Although they made a huge splash in landing Purdue grad transfer center Matt Haarms, BYU still has work to do on the perimeter. They just missed out on UNLV sharpshooter Jonah Antonio, who had the Cougars in the final four recently. This team still has a couple of scholarships available and could use a pair of incoming ball-handlers, one to play next year and someone like Walker who can sit out a season.
With Alex Barcello coming up as a senior, there’s a need for BYU to find another capable combo guard. Having shot 40% from three-point range at Air Force, this transfer would be a nice fit for the reigning team leading in perimeter shooting this past season. And having come from the academy, Walker would also fit the program and their honor code for the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints and BYU.
Cincinnati Bearcats
One of the early suitors for Walker, the Bearcats did add a guard this offseason in sit-out transfer David Dejulius. They probably would be better off in landing a graduate transfer to replace the overall production of Jarron Cumberland for next year and it’s 50/50 if this transfer in question can get a waiver.
Even still, having a pair of talented guards in Dejulius and Walker waiting in the wings isn’t the worst thing in the world either. They’d be set for the year after with the juniors and can focus on the frontcourt. While Memphis has Penny Hardaway and can excel on the recruiting trail, programs like Cincinnati need to get creative on the transfer portal. With other teams out of the running, the Bearcats can land a productive starter who can shoot it.
