NCAA Basketball: 10 teams who should target Purdue transfer Nojel Eastern
Dayton Flyers
It’s been a surprise so far that despite the historic success of this past season, the Flyers have been unable to land any transfers this Spring. They’ll be okay at least for next season, with the return of rising senior guards Jalen Crutcher, Ibi Watson and Rodney Chatman. Dayton could use a big man for the upcoming season but there just aren’t that many left in the portal good enough for a big impact.
This could be a win-win scenario for both Dayton and Eastern. The team would add a senior veteran who can provide experience and leadership for the new group, while the Flyers can make the former Boilermaker a focal point on their offense in the Atlantic 10. Going from Purdue to Dayton is no big drop-off at all and avoiding a powerhouse program who might not have the minutes is something to consider.
DePaul Blue Demons
With Eastern coming from the state of Illinois, there has to be a local option available. Illinois would be an interesting choice but I’m not too sure the player will want to stay in the Big Ten. DePaul, with a scholarship available, could use Eastern to boost their lowly defense in two years. They’ve already landed three transfer guards this offseason, including grad transfers Courvoisier McCauley and Ray Salnave.
Valpo transfer Javon Freeman-Liberty also could be available next season if he gets a waiver, creating a hot of senior guards. They’ll need someone waiting in the wings to have an impact for the 2021-22 season and Eastern could be of huge use alongside Freeman-Liberty. They might not be as good as Purdue but the Blue Demons does have guaranteed playing time available.
