Trey Patterson is one of the best pure wings in the 2021 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Who are the 10 programs in the running for his services?

The small forward position in NCAA Basketball can be filled in many different ways. In this past season, there were a number of programs who used three-guard lineups, as well as others who used bigger sized groups. But coaches would prefer to have a natural “wing” at the three-spot, who can defend other guards but still help contribute on the boards. Class of 2021 prospect Trey Patterson would be the ideal player to fill that spot.

At 6’8 and 180 pounds currently, Patterson has the size and quickness to deal with any kind of opponent at the power forward position. On offense, he can score in any way and can shoot the ball well enough, along with driving to the basket. The No. 1 prospect in the state of New Jersey has seen his recruitment heat up in the past month, landing a number of recent power conference offers.

This past weekend, the four-star recruit publically announced his list of 10 NCAA Basketball programs in the running for his commitment. There are some teams that aren’t surprising to be included, such as local option Rutgers, along with current favorite Villanova. But with a year of time before having to make a decision, a lot could happen.

For this piece, I’ll be taking a look at Patterson’s potential fit with each of the 10 programs involved. With him as a natural wing, it’ll be easier for me to see the rosters and which presents the best landing spot for immediate playing time. But others could provide a better situation for winning. Here’s how I see Patterson with each team.
