Former USC guard Elijah Weaver announced on Monday that he would be joining Dayton basketball to finish his eligibility. Here’s what Weaver brings to the Flyers.

Elijah Weaver announced via his Instagram that he would be joining the Dayton Flyers, the former USC guard is a likely sit one play two transfer and will make a nice addition to the Flyers down the line. Weaver is an athletic 6’6 guard that started 19 games and made 59 appearances over two seasons with USC.

Weaver picked the Flyers over SEC Arkansas and Johnny Dawkins Central Florida. The Flyers have been active in the transfer portal but Weaver is the first transfer pickup for Anthony Grant this offseason.

Speaking of transfers the Flyers had quite a few of them make a big impact this past season with former Michigan transfer Ibi Watson, former Chatanooga transfer Rodney Chapman, and Nebraska transfer Jordy Tshimanga. All three made big contributions last season and will be key pieces for the Flyers for the upcoming year.

Weaver will be joining a Dayton program that has a deep backcourt for this upcoming season with All A-10 guard Jalen Crutcher, Ibi Watson, and Rodney Chapman all back.  All three will be seniors this upcoming season making Weaver a great addition if he sits out. Weaver would be able to be an immediate impact player in the 2021 season and a great way for Dayton to transition when they lose all those seniors.

Elijah Weaver has a great skill set at 6’6, he has the ability to get to the rim and finish through contact. He’s not afraid to take the mid-ranger or the outside jumper, he shot 34% from three in his first two seasons. Weaver has struggled a bit at the free-throw line.

Weaver has great length and is a good two-way guard, this is a big pickup for the Flyers as they look to build on last seasons successes. The Flyers do have three freshmen coming in this next season but will have two more scholarships to fill for the 2020-2021 season, they will continue to be active in trying to find talent to fill those last two spots most likely in the transfer portal.
