ACC Basketball: Top 10 head coaches of the century (2000-20)
By Joey Loose
Who are the most accomplished head coaches in ACC Basketball so far this century?
An argument could certainly be made for a few other leagues, but it’s easy to argue that ACC Basketball is one of the toughest and most exciting basketball conferences. A few of college basketball’s most prominent programs call the ACC their home, while multiple teams in the conference have recently won national titles. Even some of the weaker teams in the conference have impressive history and consistent success in their past.
Much of the success of these teams, especially in recent years, is the result of some pretty incredible coaching. It’s not exactly difficult to recruit high-profile talent to the ACC, but there have still been some impressive coaches that have come and gone from the league. While some have struggled to create headway in this tough conference, others have left an indelible mark.
We’re going to take a look at the ten greatest head coaches of the ACC since 2000. There are no specific criteria to select the coaches, but some of the choices tend to be quite obvious. We’ll not only look at postseason success, but how a coach performed relative to his predecessor or how the program performed after his departure. There are plenty of factors to consider, and this conference is truly represented by some of college basketball’s most talented head coaches.
Without further ado, we’re going to start running through these coaches, looking closely at some of their accomplishments during their time in the ACC.
