Who are the most accomplished head coaches in Ivy League Basketball so far this century?
In all of college athletics, it’s hard to find a conference that compares to Ivy League Basketball. The conference consists of a group of the country’s most prestigious academic institutions. The makeup of the league has not changed and the conference will never be affected by the realignment that changes the sport on a regular basis. Great academics does not always equate to great athletics, but there has still been some fascinating success in this conference.
The mid-major teams in the Ivy League all have extensive histories, albeit not all successful, and have been led some pretty great coaches over the years. It’s more difficult to recruit talent to the Ivy League than any other conference in the country, and some of these coaches do the improbable by building talented rosters. We fondly remember some of those coaches who have moved mountains in the Ivy League.
We’ll be looking closely at the ten greatest head coaches in the Ivy League since 2000. There isn’t any specific method to our madness; they are ranked on several different uncalculated factors. While some clearly stand out above the others, we’ll be looking at postseason success and how these coaches established a winning culture at their schools. Balancing the academics and athletics in the conference is no easy task, making winning in this conference more difficult than in your typical mid-major.
Without further ado, let’s start ranking the Ivy League coaches, taking a closer look at their accomplishments in this conference.
