AAC Basketball: Top 15 impact players from 2020 recruiting class
AAC Basketball’s highest recruiting class is ranked 46 nationally and as a conference they have zero five-star freshmen joining their ranks. The 22 recruits that are joining are more an example of players being underrated than coaches under recruiting.
The 2019-20 season was a standard one for the American Athletic Conference. It saw three of their teams enter the AP Poll at some point in the season regular-season. From those three teams, only Houston ended the season in the top 25. To maintain the pattern of typical AAC Basketball seasons, four of the five players on the All-AAC first team were seniors.
The 2020 recruitment class does not, and never does, rank as high as the top teams in the ACC, Big East, and even the SEC, but many teams were able to recruit players at a position where a hole needed to be filled, thus making the team better.
With the highest player ranking being ranked No. 61, these recruits will have time to improve and develop with their respective teams as most will not be a ‘one and done’. This requires coaches to actually recruit while thinking of a three or four-year plan, as opposed to just piling up five-star recruits in order to make it fit when the time comes.
That is not to say that AAC coaches would scoff at an opportunity to have a potentially one and done, with Anfernee Hardaway joining the coaching ranks of the AAC, the culture may be forced to shift. Regardless of the player’s ranking, the AAC has a number of recruits that are going to make an impact in and outside of the AAC this season. The top15 AAC recruits that every college basketball fan needs to pay attention to are ranked for your convenience.
