AAC Basketball: Top 15 impact players from 2020 recruiting class
4. AAC Basketball recruit rankings – Kiyron Powell (Houston)
Listed at approximately 200 pounds, the 6’10 Houston Basketball commit may not have the weight to make an impact at the center position but he has the talent. The three-star recruit was the captain of his Evansville Bosse team as he averaged 14.6 points and 12.4 rebounds per game.
It does not take too many trips down the floor of watching Powell in order to learn that he thoroughly enjoyed dunking on high school kids as he became No. 143 in the national rankings by Rivals.com. Coach Kelvin Sampson may have no other choice but to ignore the light weight of his new center as Chris Harris is set to graduate leaving nobody else over 6’8.
With just four spots remaining and two additional Cougars to discuss, Powell has the easiest path to playing time. One of Powell’s positive aspects was his ability to draw and pass out of the double team, this, however, was in high school, there will not be a need to double Powell in the AAC. He also does not display the ability to create his own shot but does finish when given the pass.
Powell will be getting playing time and the shear minutes will give him the opportunity to run the floor and use his athleticism for easy buckets. There is the threat of him getting worn down defensively but look for him to make an impact.
