Finalists for transfer Both Gach – Maryland Terrapins
Maryland, like Auburn, is a big name program that had a lot of success last year, but who is losing a lot of talent and has not had any luck adding big-name recruits and transfers to the roster.
The Terrapins were 24-7 last season, finishing 14-6 and in first place in the Big Ten. They will lose leading scorer Anthony Cowan to graduation and Jalen Smith to the NBA, where they could also lose Aaron Wiggins as well.
That will leave the Terrapins thin on talent in 2020-2021, and while Gach likely won’t be able to help with that – at least they will have reinforcements coming on the wing.
Maryland does have a pair of guards joining the team in the 2020 class, but neither is within the top-200 of 247’s recruit rankings, a sign that Gach would immediately contribute – regardless of whether he is eligible in 2020 or not.
So, Maryland may actually offer the best blend of playability and talent, although the massive amount of loss from last year’s roster could hamper this team’s ability to compete for another Big Ten title in 2020-2021.
Still, the Terrapins are not a bad landing spot for Gach, if he is willing to accept the likelihood that a waiver does not pass if he heads that far east away from his hometown.
Gach’s options all have some level of appeal, and the versatile scorer should be a big contributor wherever he ends up.
