ACC Basketball breakout candidate – Caleb Love (North Carolina)

After experiencing an uncharacteristically rough reason, ascending back as championship contenders most certainly remain on the radar for North Carolina next year. But having assembled perhaps the game’s best frontcourt for next year, doing so appears highly probable. Providing help up at the point guard spot, however, Caleb Love should turn some heads during his freshmen year.

Already drawing NBA attention, Love undeniably mirrors former point guard Cole Anthony, who also attracted some excessive attention before ever even suiting up for the Tar Heels. Having illustrated game-breaking speed and remarkable court vision during his high school days, Love possesses all the tools necessary to become a top point guard even by national standards.

Plus, with other incoming stars Walker Kessler and Day’Ron Sharpe both set to share the paint as big men, a real chance to lies before Love to separate himself as the most notable piece apart from the second highest-ranked recruiting class according to 247Sports.

But even from a team standpoint, Love playing as the primary ball-handler for a squad loaded with talent, while rightfully so drawing ACC championship expectations, places him within a perfect situation to excel. With the opportunity to run the point basically as a one-man show, while also enjoying the option dump the ball off down low to either Kessler, Sharpe, Brooks, or even Armando Bacot anytime he sees fit, imagining a scenario involving Love not breaking out as a star grows incredibly difficult.
