NCAA Basketball contender for Daeshun Ruffin – Alabama Crimson Tide

Nate Oats deserves a mulligan in his first year with the Tide. Despite joining the program late in the recruiting cycle, he managed to save and improve the talent of his first recruiting class. Preseason injuries removed key depth expected to contribute to the Tide’s success in 2019. Oats on-court system worked though and was especially fruitful to his guards.

Former point guard Kira Lewis Jr. and returning guards John Petty and Jaden Shackelford have thrived on the floor for Alabama. Along with the 5th highest tempo nationally, Oats encourages shots early in the possession keeping his guys aggressive and confident in their play. Ruffin’s skillset and attack mentality fits extremely well with what the Tide are looking to do.

Despite Oats also recruiting a number of top guard prospects to compete alongside Ruffin, there is less concern immediately impacting his ability to produce on the court. The frenetic pace played by Alabama requires a fresh stable of players to rotate time on the court. Having additional talent around him will only make Ruffin a more efficient and dangerous player in this system.
