UTEP entered last season with huge expectations. They didn’t live up to them, but they do have a star in Bryson Williams who hopes to get his team back to the top of the league.

Every season there are always teams picked to be one of the most improved teams in the country. The reasons vary usually always has to do with the makeup of the roster. The team usually has some eligible transfers who are going to be eligible and got many wins on the recruiting front to improve the roster quickly. To go along with the transfers and incoming recruits the returning players have developed, and it always seems to form a nice mix of talent, at least on paper.

The UTEP Miners were one of those teams last year. The Miners were picked by many to be one of the leaders of Conference USA because they had many high-profile transfers who became eligible a season ago. What many didn’t factor was how all these players would co-exist on the court. All season long it seemed like UTEP had a chemistry issue on the floor. They were never able to meet the lofty expectations placed on them. The Miners have a good core of their team returning from last year and this year is the year head coach Rodney Terry hopes they can get over the hump.

One Miner may have exceeded expectations and that was forward Bryson Williams. Williams enters his final year in college as one of the best players in the Conference USA and he is hoping to help change the fortunes of the UTEP basketball program. The Miners have not made the NCAA tournament since 2010 and head coach Terry has a roster that can live up to those expectations this year and get back to the NCAA tournament.
