NCAA Basketball: Ranking 4-star PG Bobby Pettiford Jr’s final 4 teams
By Ian Mumm
4. Ole Miss Rebels – Candidate for Bobbi Pettiford Jr.
The on-court fit with Ole Miss is very strong for Pettiford. The team runs a more traditional half-court system and methodically attempts to attack the defense. The Rebels are not a huge perimeter shooting team and Pettiford would be able to run the offense more through the pick-and-roll to create opportunities for his team.
Kermit Davis has cast a wide recruiting net this offseason to try and rebuild his roster coming off a poor showing in 2019. Currently sitting in the leader’s chair for fellow 4-star guard Daeshun Ruffin, the Rebels are also heavily involved with top-100 guards J.D. Davison and Peyton Daniels. Additionally, incoming freshman Markus Niblack and Cal State-Bakersfield transfer Jarkal Joiner (15.6 PPG) are expected to be on the roster in 2021.
However, Pettiford’s saving grace with the Rebels could be a larger rotation of guards typically used by the team. Backup guards averaged ~12 minutes per game last season for Kermit Davis, which could be enough for Pettiford to begin carving out a more pronounced role with the team. The fight for minutes with Ole Miss is potentially going to be very difficult and certainly less than his other options.
