Who are the most accomplished head coaches in Big East Basketball this century?
There can be plenty of discussions, but it’s no joke that Big East Basketball has been one of the country’s best basketball conferences. Some of the legends of basketball have passed through this conference’s teams and we’ve seen some incredible history since its founding. Even the programs with less history have storied backgrounds. Even after enduring major realignment changes in 2013, the Big East remains one of the premier basketball conferences in the nation.
Over that history, the league has included some of the legends of coaching in basketball. Names like John Thompson and Rollie Massimino have done phenomenal work in the Big East and the current legends only continue to build their legacies. These coaches have brought elite talent to the Big East and put them in the position to create that success.
We’re going to take a closer look at the ten greatest head coaches of the Big East since 2000. Determining the standout coaches isn’t too difficult, but we’ll be looking at various factors to rank our selections. We’ll look not only at things like wins and losses but at postseason success and how a coach impacted their program based on its performance before and after his tenure. Clearly, there’s plenty to consider, and there are some high-quality coaches that have passed through the Big East.
