6. NCAA Basketball state of Indiana power rankings – Valparaiso Crusaders

Projected Depth Chart

PG- Daniel Sackey, JR / Sigurd Lorange, SO

SG- Eron Gordon, SR / Nick Robinson, SR / Sheldon Edwards Jr, FR

SF- Donovan Clay, SO / Zion Morgan, SR / Goodnews Kpegeol, SO

PF- Mileek McMillan, SR / Jacob Ognacevic

The transfer of Javon Freeman-Liberty (19 ppg, 6.1 Asst 3.2 Reb) to DePaul is one of the biggest blows for any team in the country, especially one that had a shot at the MVC league championship. That said, the cupboard is not as bare as it seems for Head Coach Matt Lotich and the Valpo basketball program.

Enter Eron Gordon (5.2 ppg 2.3 rpg, .5 apg), a former top 150 recruit out of Indianapolis and Seton Hall transfer in 2018. The 2-guard out of the famed North Central High School in Indy has been waiting for an opportunity to shake off the “bust” label and hear it is. Helping out Gordon in the backcourt will be Daniel Sackey (6.5 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 3.6 apg), who, while not the same type of scorer as Freeman-Liberty is a better distributor. There will be a more balanced offense in Valparaiso this season.

The 6”7 Donovan Clay (9.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.7 apg) and 6”8 Mileek McMillan (8.8 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1 apg) are also back for the Crusaders who have size at every position, which will really benefit them in a league lacking size in the post like the MVC.

Despite the departure of Freeman-Liberty, Valpo is going to be a contender in the MVC.

Prediction: 5th in MVC and Postseason Birth
