Elon is looking for a breakout season in CAA Basketball. Armed with the best roster they have had in a long time led by Hunter Woods, what will the Phoenix do?

The Colonial Athletic Association or CAA Basketball for short has had a good run of success on the basketball court. The conference has had two teams make a surprise run to the final four in George Mason and VCU. Neither of those teams are a member of the conference anymore. George Mason and VCU are both part of the Atlantic 10 conference now. Even though those teams are no longer in the conference the Colonial still has some very exciting basketball.

One of the teams who was added after the departure of George Mason and VCU is the Elon Phoenix. The Phoenix is a team that has no history at the Division I level. Elon has made one CIT tournament since their reclassification up to the Division I level in the 1999-2000 season. In those 21 years, they have yet to make the NCAA tournament and quite frankly have not been close to making it, especially in the now one bid league they play in.

The Phoenix are hoping their luck can change shortly as they have one of the very best players in the league. Sophomore guard Hunter Woods could be the best to ever wear the uniform for the Phoenix. When head coach Mike Schrage took the job, he knew it was going to be a large rebuilding project but with the outstanding sophomore class he has, the Phoenix has a chance to do something no other team in school history has ever accomplished. This year they are going to start and end with the play of Woods. He is primed for a breakout season.
