NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 2021 4-Star G Jalen Warley 10 teams
By Ian Mumm
NCAA Basketball option for Jaylen Warley – Memphis Tigers
Penny’s 2020 recruiting class underwhelms compared to the stellar 2019 group but is setting up to ‘swing for the fences’ in 2021. The loss of James Wiseman significantly lowered the on-court performance of the Tigers. Forced into a true run-and-gun offense, the team’s offensive efficiency drastically lowered with multiple backcourt options predominantly shooting 3s throughout the game.
The Tigers defense ranked 58th and 6th respectively in steals and blocks, but their backcourt was the weakest group on the floor. If Warley joins the team, he will provide a lot of balance to the current roster and can make the backcourt a much more effective unit. A big change he can help facilitate is to slow down the tempo of the team and command more methodical offensive possessions resulting in decreased turnovers.
His preference to get inside perfectly compliments the perimeter shooting tendencies of Lester Quinones, Boogie Ellis, and Virginia Tech transfer Landers Nolley. He will also create scoring opportunities for every player on the floor with superb court vision. Memphis is still after 5-star prospects Harrison Ingram, Kennedy Chandler, and Jaden Hardy in the 2021 class. Landing any of these players to combine with Warley will significantly elevate his productivity with the Tigers, but is also likely to take away from his offensive priority with the program.
