Nebraska Basketball: Huskers lose Kobe King, gain freshman guard Elijah Wood
By Bryan Mauro
Nebraska Basketball has had some roster transactions, both losing and gaining a guard this past week.
Nebraska Basketball has been extremely active on the recruiting front under current head coach Fred Hoiberg. The program has offered a different caliber of athlete that the program never really used to offer in the past. Aside from that Nebraska is still one of the top destinations for sit out transfers in the country. That trend has carried on from the previous coaching staffs.
The past weekend was an eventful one for the Huskers. The coaching staff continues to hold workouts for the players that are on campus. All but two players are reportedly on campus for the workouts. The two players not in Lincoln yet are two players who are back in the home countries of France and Iceland respectively and will return once travel opens back up.
The Covid-19 Pandemic has presented an interesting set of problems in the world of college basketball coaches. It is impossible for coaches to get kids on campus for a visit. The virtual visits only go so far, and there are are occasions when certain players want to stay closer to their home or move to a state that has felt a lesser impact from the Pandemic. All of these unique challenges are things no coach has had any experience with and is going to ultimately lead to attrition.
The Nebraska coaching staff is using the relationships they have already built with many of their recruits. Hoiberg was a coach in the NBA of the Chicago Bulls in the NBA before taking the job with Nebraska. He has a face that many recruits know because of where he coached and the coaching staff has used that their advantage. It still has not been watertight and has still led to a lot of attrition in the program over the last year plus. Some by design and some not. The last 48 hours were no different for a program trying to rebuild.
