Big East Basketball: Analyzing each program’s 2020 recruiting class
Marquette Golden Eagles: No. 1 Big East, No. 18 Nation
Osasere Ighodaro – 6’9 / 205 PF
Off the strength of a seventy ranking from 247sports, Ighodaro in number 99 on the Recruiting Services Consensus Index after averaging 15.9 ppg, 2.5 apg, and 10.4 rpg in his senior year at Desert Vista. His catch and shoot in the paint area make him impossible to give space to. In addition, even though it as difficult to defend a 6’9 power forward in high school, Ighodaro still demonstrated nice footwork with his back to the basket. His favorite part of defense is blocking shots but is not always in the proper defensive position to do so.
Justin Lewis 6’7 / 225 PF
If given a clear path to the basket, the power forward from Baltimore Polytechnique Institute will dunk the basketball, if there is a defender, or even two, between him and the basket, he will use his body to get to the rim. Ranked 87 in the RSCI, Lewis is currently NCAA talent, who should end up starting or at least log starters minutes. At 225 he will battle for rebounds and for the defensive position that will provide Coach Steve Wojciechowski with options.
Dawson Garcia 6’11 / 220 PF
Cut from the same cloth as Luka Garza. His senior year at Prior Lake, Garcia would be saddled with the responsibility of guarding on the perimeter and down low when needed. The true declaration of his versatility comes on offense. His affliction for hitting the straight-a-way three aside, Garcia has the ball-handling skill to take frontcourt players off the dribble that is essentially a set up for a stop and pop around the charity stripe.
If the defense switches on screens, Garcia can easily post up a shorter defender in the paint. When you account for his passing ability out of a double team, it becomes difficult to stop the thirty-fifth ranked player on the RSCI.
