NCAA Basketball: Analyzing 2021 4-Star F Arthur Kaluma’s final 8 schools
By Ian Mumm
Syracuse Orange
As another strong defensive team, Syracuse would be a comfortable program for Kaluma to play his college ball. Jim Boeheim’s 2-3 zone is notorious in the basketball world but could become even more problematic with a player like Kaluma added to the mix. His speed, lateral quickness, and length can be utilized in almost every spot in the zone, but these traits at the top of the zone could increase the difficulty for teams to score against it. It could also “hide” one of Cuse’s prime offensive players, like Buddy Boeheim to conserve energy and stay out of foul trouble.
Kaluma’s offensive skillset would be greatly complemented by the current stars on the team. Freshman standout Joe Girard and sharpshooter Buddy Boeheim are dangerous perimeter threats that defenses must account for to beat the Orange. Kaluma’s ability to dribble hit midrange jumpers and attack the rim makes him the perfect pick-and-roll weapon for Coach Boeheim.
Much in the way Draymond Green acts as a secondary playmaker for the Golden State Warriors, as well as a defensive anchor, Kaluma has the ability to elevate Syracuse’s offense to another level. As he has already shown at the high school and AAU levels, his production across the board is very valuable to his team. Defenses must pick and choose which aspect to defend and Kaluma can capitalize on what’s left.
