NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 10 teams in running for 5-star Daimion Collins
10. Oklahoma State Cowboys
The program has had a tough couple of weeks, getting hammered by the NCAA for recruiting violations that resulted in a current one-year postseason ban. It’s devastating for a team that brought in the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2020 class, Cade Cunningham, who’ll only be around for one season.
While Cunningham and other key players have stuck around, the Cowboys did lose starting big man Yor Anei to the transfer portal. That has an impact for the team in the center position, although they did land JUCO big man Bernard Kouma for the upcoming season. There’s not much depth outside of him though, making the frontcourt a clear need in the 2021 recruiting class.
Landing Collins would be a massive get for the program, building off of landing Cunningham. The team will be postseason eligible and he would have a huge role as a freshman, both on offense and defense. And if Isaac Likekele and incoming four-star guard Rondel Walker elect to return, Oklahoma State would have something to work with.
But this is a competition for a five-star prospect and the good that the Cowboys can offer can be done by everyone else on this list. And those teams have a much better recent history in terms of winning and sending players to the NBA Draft. And from a roster perspective, Ok State will have to add a lot more than just Collins to make them a true tournament contender for 2021-22.
