NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 10 teams in running for 5-star Daimion Collins
6. Arkansas Razorbacks
You certainly can’t say that the Razorbacks aren’t trying when it comes to building as good a roster as possible. Head coach Eric Musselman and the staff has been after every top-tier prospect from the southeast and everyone who enters the transfer portal, landing three grad transfers for the upcoming season.
There’s also a top-10 incoming freshman class, featuring top-70 center Jaylin Williams. He’s someone set to play a fair amount of minutes and could start if Arkansas wants to utilize a standard lineup. Cal sit-out transfer Connor Vanover is also on the roster but quite frankly, I think he may have already been over-recruited in the past 12 months. Collins joining the program would only add to it.
While Coach Musselman plays at a faster pace overall, there needs to be a defensive anchor inside for the scheme to work. Collins would fit there and provide an immediate impact that would guarantee him being part of the 8-9 man rotation. But being a five-star prospect doesn’t mean that he’ll play no matter what, evident by Jordan Brown riding the bench at Nevada a couple of years ago.
It’s hard to tell what a roster coached by Mussleman will look like 12 months from now, knowing that transfers and other recruits are certainly going to be part of the equation. And if Williams has a good freshman campaign, Collins won’t be the starter for the Hogs. Will he leave the state to be a backup?
