8. Vanderbilt Commodores

Even though the team finished last in the SEC, second-year head coach Jerry Stackhouse is rebuilding the Commodores to get back to being competitive. There is definitely a need for more talent, especially for top-100 players who can compete and succeed in the SEC.

The issue though, is that the point guard position is actually the biggest strength for the Vandy roster. Scotty Pippen Jr., who averaged 3.6 apg last season, is likely a four-year player as a combo guard. Kansas transfer Issac McBride is sitting out next year but will be eligible in 2021-22, while class of 2021 top-150 recruit Payton Daniels has already committed. Collins could certainly carve out a role for himself but it’s hard to see him want to fight for minutes on a team with little hope of making the NCAA Tournament.

7. USC Trojans

After filling up the roster with a ton of grad transfers this offseason, the Trojans have been hard at work with the 2021 class, already ranked No. 1 with three commits. Two of them are top-100 shooting guard prospects in Reese Dixon-Waters and Malik Thomas.

There’s a need for there to be another point guard on the 2021-22 roster but in order for this to work, Collins would have to be willing to back up incumbent starter Ethan Anderson. He led the team with 4.2 apg last season, although he doesn’t provide much scoring offense. There are simply other options among the eight that can give Collins more immediate playing time and potentially to start as a freshman. The Trojans aren’t one of them.
