6. Georgetown Hoyas

This is a difficult team to judge for a recruit because when it comes to potential playing time, the Hoyas should be first on the list. After Mac McClung’s departure, the team added Arkansas grad transfer Jalen Harris to shore up the position, along with three-star incoming ball-handlers, Tyler Beard and Dante Harris.

Unless a freshman unexpectedly breaks out, Collins has a pathway to be a starter. But besides assuming that he would ultimately travel out east for a rebuilding program, there’s a possibility that head coach Patrick Ewing doesn’t get retained if Georgetown has another bottom-3 finish in the Big East. If I was more sure that the coach would still be around, the Hoyas would definitely have an even better chance in this process.

5. New Mexico Lobos

Despite being the lone mid-major of the group, don’t count out head coach Paul Wier and his ability to bring in talent. He’s undergoing a complete rebuild after the transfer experiment from the past couple of years failed to work out.

But he did land one in former North Carolina point guard Jeremiah Francis, who outside of a waiver will have to sit out a season. He and Collins could work well together if that’s what happens, along with anyone else the Lobos bring in. Compared to some of the other options, New Mexico can get Collins on the court faster than the other contenders on the list. But will the allure and prestige of the power conferences be too much for the Mountain West program to overcome?
